Frequently Asked Questions
Who is the typical customer for Westland's
Peace of Mind Program®?
Anyone who wishes to properly memorialize a loved one
who has passed away. Widows, widowers, children, and other
family members who feel a responsibility to respect that person
who meant so much to them while living purchase our services.
Many times, the decision is made and an entire family pays
for the plan. People who "pre-plan" their funeral
also opt to purchase our plans in advance.
What are the most common reasons that people purchase one
of Westland's plans?
Many of our clients are simply no longer able to care
for their family plot because of physical limitations, for
example - arthritis. Others wish to move to another area,
and caring for the plot represents "unfinished business"
to them. And, to many of our clients, our service helps them
to remove the responsibility from their children. Let's face
it no one wants to be forgotten!
Most cemeteries provide "perpetual care". Is
there an overlap in the services provided by Westland?
No. "Perpetual Care" provided by cemeteries
is merely turf maintenance. They cut grass and prune trees.
Where the cemetery leaves off, Westland takes over. We beautify
the plot, such as plant flowers of the family's choice --
according to plans created by our on-staff horticulturist,
maintain those plantings throughout the growing season, send
color photographs twice per year to surviving family members,
and secure a winter basket or wreath at the gravesite for
Thanksgiving.
Do cemeteries allow you to perform these services?
Of course. While a small percentage of cemeteries have
restrictions against planting, the vast majority of them allow
family members to put in plants, or place flowers, if they
wish. We take the family's place in caring for the gravesite.
What is the duration of the service plans Westland provides?
All Westland's services run for twenty-five years for
a one time cost, with options available for additional 25
year periods as desired.
Are these contracts expensive?
Not at all. We have contracts priced to meet the needs
of people of almost all income levels. Many of our current
clients are families who share the cost among the surviving
spouse and children.
Are the service plans guaranteed?
Yes. All service plans carry a prorated performance guarantee
in writing. The proceeds are held in a custodial account at
a trust department of a major financial institution to assure
that funds are available throughout the term of each service
plan.
